Receiving an Autism or ADHD diagnosis can feel both liberating and overwhelming. Being neurodivergent often means having strengths and challenges that show up at the same time — and learning how to make sense of that is an important step for many young people.
Our ‘Being Me’ programme is designed to support young people aged 10–25 in the Scottish Borders who have recently received a diagnosis of Autism and/or ADHD.

Through up to eight one-to-one sessions with a certified therapist experienced in neurodivergence, young people are supported to:
Build a stage-appropriate understanding of what their diagnosis means.
Explore how being neurodivergent uniquely shapes their life and experiences.
Develop tailored self-management strategies that reduce the risk of longer-term difficulties such as anxiety or depression.
Sessions are delivered in our specially designed therapeutic spaces, using a person-centred approach that places the young person’s priorities at the heart of the work. Every programme is shaped around the individual, drawing on the latest research and therapeutic approaches.
The aim is simple but powerful: to help young people feel more confident in themselves, more able to manage their daily lives, and better supported for the future.

The Being Me programme is supported through the Self Management Fund for Scotland (Self Management for Life round), administered by the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland and made possible by investment from the Scottish Government. This funding enables Cheviot Youth to provide early, specialist support to neurodivergent young people across the Borders, helping them to build confidence, resilience, and self-management skills for the future.
